ASPRIMA-SIMA Award 2009: Best Real Estate Development in New-Build Private Housing, Almanzora
Almanzora, in Aravaca, received the 2009 ASPRIMA-SIMA award for the best real estate development in new-build private housing.
The ASPRIMA-SIMA awards come from within Madrid’s property sector itself: they are convened every year by the Madrid Association of Property Developers and the Madrid Property Fair, and they recognise developments for their overall conception, the quality of their execution and the way they settle into their setting. In its sixth edition, in 2009, the award for the Best Real Estate Development in New-Build Private Housing went to Almanzora, a development by ÁBATON in Aravaca.
It was the second year running. A year earlier the studio had received the same award for Los Peñascales, and the repetition says something about a way of working in which designing, developing and building are part of a single craft.
Almanzora brings together ten homes in two buildings. Planning rules required the plot’s buildable area to be divided, and the project turned that obligation into architecture: one of the volumes curves around a courtyard, with an exposed concrete façade that is both structure and enclosure, and opens towards the south. Each home is conceived as an independent house, with planted terraces and, in many cases, its own swimming pool. The interior design was by BATAVIA.
The architecture is signed by José Ignacio Lechón Pérez and Camino Alonso Ramos. The historical list of the awards, published by the organisers, records the development by name, with ÁBATON as developer.
