Sustainability

We are committed to our role in achieving more sustainable and mindful architecture.

ÁBATON

At ÁBATON, we are aware of the footprint that construction leaves on the environment. Our goal is to minimize our impact:

Sustainable construction

We base our constructions on sustainable architectural design, utilizing low-impact, eco-friendly materials that are highly recyclable and cost-effective.

Respect for the enviroment

We analyze the site's rainwater, ensuring it is returned to the land to maintain the area's natural moisture levels where construction takes place.

Bioclimatic criteria

ÁBATON incorporates bioclimatic criteria into all projects to ensure energy efficiency both in the short and long term, pioneering the design, development, and execution of green roofs and terraces in Spain.

New technologies applied to wood enable us to build with an eco-friendly and sustainable material that can serve as a substitute for conventional materials.

The primary advantage of cross-laminated timber (CLT) over other construction materials lies in its superior structural performance. Other advantages are:

Optimization of usable space relative to the built area.

Prefabrication of components for installation on-site, ensuring adherence to the architectural design and precision in dimensions.

Reduction of loads transmitted to the foundation.

Shorter construction timelines.

Elimination of thermal bridges associated with materials of higher conductivity.

Lower energy consumption during construction and reduced CO2 emissions compared to other materials, as wood naturally sequesters CO2 during its growth in forests.

Enhanced ecosystem health by using only PEFC-certified European wood, which guarantees sustainable practices and improvements in forest density.

The employed structural system enhances humidity regulation, stabilizing fluctuations that occur during everyday use.

We are the architecture firm with an in-house construction team that has designed and built the most CLT homes in Spain.

The Environmental Product Footprint (EPF) is a multicriteria assessment of a product's environmental performance throughout its life cycle, encompassing all activities in the supply chain—from raw material extraction to final waste management, including construction, usage, and maintenance.

Product Enviromental Footprint

ÁBATON has calculated the environmental footprint of a single-family home of approximately 250 m², constructed with cross-laminated timber (CLT). This home meets high construction standards, achieving an energy certification of A and adhering to the conceptual guidelines of the Passivhaus standard. From this perspective, it serves as a model for the studio’s construction patterns.

Analyzing the environmental footprint provides detailed, quantified, and normalized information on the contribution of each design decision, enabling informed choices and the design of buildings that minimize their overall impact. ÁBATON is dedicated to sustainable architecture.

ÁBATON is committed to the future and firmly resolved to contribute to a more sustainable world.
