Archilovers Best Project 2017: Comprehensive Renovation in Alcalá
According to the studio, the Archilovers platform named the Comprehensive Renovation in Alcalá a Best Project in 2017, one of ÁBATON's residential works in Madrid.
Archilovers, the architecture community of the Archiproducts group, singles out every year as Best Project a selection of the works published on its platform that have attracted most interest among its users. According to the studio’s own records, in 2017 that distinction went to ÁBATON’s Comprehensive Renovation in Alcalá.
The home is a duplex on the upper floors of a building on Calle de Alcalá in Madrid, completed in 2014 and designed together with Wespi de Meuron Romeo architects, with interior design by BATAVIA. The lower floor keeps the building’s classical features; the attic, open to a large terrace, was resolved with a white, pared-back architecture. Between the two, the staircase and the circulation join two ways of understanding the home without either prevailing over the other.
That same year, the work received both the jury and the public award in the apartment category of Architizer’s A+Awards. The coincidence of recognitions, that of the specialists and that of a broad community of architecture enthusiasts, speaks of a project that is understood at first sight and stands up to close attention.
The Archilovers distinction is not an award with a jury, but a selection by the platform, and that is how it should be presented.
