Shortlisted entries in the ÁBATON: a new perspective photo and video contest

Following the call for new talents for the competition “The Essence of Space: Architectural Photography and Video” by ABATON, the studio selected twenty participants, emerging photographers and videographers, to make reports in ABATON homes with the intention of capturing the sensations of the spaces beyond the material. The shortlisted entries of the competition show a new perspective of their architecture, more empathetic and closer to the values they reflect.

Even though they are making their debut in the professional field, they include careful works that express not only the materiality of what they capture, but also the atmosphere, sensations and an emotional level based on textures, coherent contrasts, light and composition.

On May 3, the contest participants sent the photographic and video material for evaluation, after several sessions in ÁBATON homes such as the Valladolid Project, the Reform in San Mateo or the architecture studio itself, in Pozuelo de Alarcón.

Franzisco González, one of the participants, an architect and photographer, explores both fields together, with very careful compositions that allow us to explore spaces by glimpsing intangible sensations thanks to a great control of color and light.
