Casa Arces is a house surrounded by a spectacular sustainable garden in Aravaca, Madrid. We designed this house to integrate architecture and landscape, opening the interior of the house to the exterior through large windows and interior courtyards that establish a visual continuity always present in our projects.

The landscape design of this sustainable garden in Madrid is based on criteria of low maintenance and water efficiency. The original topography, with natural slopes, is used to create different planting plans and paths that accompany the architecture and the views from the interior. The chosen species, adapted to the climate of the area, reduce water consumption and promote biodiversity. The garden becomes a living space where pollinating species coexist with urban life.
Masses of Nepeta faassenii, Salvia nemorosa, Stachys byzantina and Geranium sanguineum generate movement. Others such as Gaura lindheimeri and Penstemon digitalis bloom in a staggered fashion from spring through fall. When the garden reaches its full bloom, violet, pink and silver tones mingle with the intense yellows of Hypericum calycinum and the burgundy foliage of Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’, composing a wild and natural landscape.

Inside, two landscaped courtyards act as green lungs that filter light and visually connect the rooms. With species such as Acer palmatum, Agapanthus africanus, Buxus sempervirens and Strelitzia nicolai, these interior gardens provide freshness, texture and a sense of natural intimacy.
