300th Renovation, a renewed commitment to innovation and sustainability

Almost 30 years after the first ABATON projects, this house, as the 300th of our integral reforms in Madrid, is presented as a milestone that marks a commitment to empathetic, responsible and conscious architecture.

Surrounded by the dense forest of Mount Abantos, this house overlooks the impressive views of the Escorial Monastery.
In the renovation of this old house from 1976, the latest technologies and materials were used to generate the minimum environmental impact and an updated and sustainable result.

Enhancement of the original architecture

The original house was designed under very different architectural standards than today. The layout of the small windows in the house did not allow to take advantage of the privileged views and this fact, together with the low height of the spaces, resulted in a dark and very compartmentalized house.
The architectural design tried to provide the space with qualities that would encourage the connection with the environment and the light. To this end, a new location was proposed for the living room, which serves as the center of union for the family. Elevated on a large granite rock, its geometry seeks to differentiate itself from the original, creating a coherent contrast. Its privileged position, elevated above the ground, gets the space is enveloped by light and nature through large windows to the south and east, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside and creating a corner immersed in the vegetation overlooking the horizon of the forest.

Harmonious contact with nature

The result of this single-family home radiates warmth and familiarity, an open and welcoming refuge that integrates perfectly with the surrounding nature. Despite its 750 m², its design scales in a human way, making every corner inviting to be explored and enjoyed.

On the first floor, a series of interconnected spaces unfolds: the living room, the dining room, a functional office, a gym, a study, a library, a bright kitchen, a TV room and a guest bedroom. Each area is designed to foster conviviality and well-being, creating an environment where families can gather and share moments. The upper floor is organized into two distinctive volumes, linked by an elegant walkway that looks out over the courtyard. One of these volumes houses the master bedroom, a sanctuary of tranquility, while the other houses three additional bedrooms, perfect for family or friends. The lower living room deck is transformed into an outdoor patio with porch, extending the connection to the natural surroundings. Finally, the basement becomes a multifunctional space that includes a garage, a utility room and a cinema room, ideal for enjoying moments of leisure with the family. Overall, this house is not only a place to live, but a true home where life unfolds in harmony with nature.
