L House
In tune with our values, the clients came to our studio looking for the idea of “home”, as a space where they felt comfortable and belonging to the place. With the aim of achieving an architecture that would transmit the feeling of having been in the same place all their lives, the project was based on an old house that was intervened with a complete renovation. In this way, it was possible to integrate a new contemporary architecture based on a solid foundation and an already consolidated environment.
A house with a history
A house built in the 1960s was chosen for the intervention, which had a spectacular garden and natural environment, although its interior structure was compact and closed. The objective was to open up the distribution and connection with the exterior so that the garden would be introduced into the house, instead of creating a superficial connection with the exterior. In this way, strategic openings were created to allow vegetation and natural light into the interior spaces, as a blending of the new architecture with the pre-existing environment.
“We were not looking for the house to open up to the garden, but for the garden to come into the house, integrating with the interior spaces.”
An example of this connection is the main staircase, which was designed to be part of the outdoor space, integrating with the garden. Likewise, the longitudinal porch allowed the kitchen to extend outward, forming part of the porch rather than being confined inside.
“We designed the main staircase as part of the outdoor space, so that the transition between house and nature would be seamless and natural.”
A home through details
From the beginning, we shared with the owners the idea that the architecture should integrate furniture, textures, materials and landscape as a whole. Each detail adds to the creation of a sense of home, defining a way of life. The result is a family house, open, welcoming and in constant dialogue with nature.
