Known as “Cold Hawaii,” this environmentally friendly rehabilitation fuses the site’s architectural history with contemporary design, creating a space that reflects both the region’s past and present.
One of the main objectives of the project was to maximize natural light and views of the surrounding landscape. This was achieved by incorporating large windows and opening up the interior spaces, allowing the natural surroundings to become an integral part of the guest experience. Architects Hein Lavsen ensured that each room had panoramic views, connecting the interior to the landscape in a seamless way.
Coastal interior design
The interior design, created in collaboration with Vipp, combines minimalist Scandinavian design elements with warm, natural materials. Vipp’s signature furniture and accessories provide a clean, functional aesthetic that complements the building’s historic architecture. The use of wood, stone and natural textiles creates a cozy and relaxing ambiance, ideal for a coastal retreat.
Sustainable respect for the environment
Sustainability also played a crucial role in the environmentally friendly renovation of the house. The architects and designers focused on using local materials and efficient construction techniques, reducing the environmental impact of the project. This attention to sustainability is not only reflected in the choice of materials, but also in the implementation of energy efficient systems and the overall approach to environmentally friendly design.
Cold Hawaii is not just a guesthouse; it is a tribute to the region’s rich architectural history and the natural beauty of Thy National Park. The collaboration between Vipp and Hein Lavsen has resulted in a space that respects the past while looking to the future, offering visitors a unique experience that celebrates both Danish design and the coastal landscape.
